Online Portfolio Overview
Online Portfolio
A portfolio is a collection of work developed across varied contexts over time. The portfolio can advance learning by providing students and/or faculty with a way to organize, archive and display pieces of work. The online portfolio is a powerful tool to reflect on your own learning and can be advantageous in the application process to make you "stand out" in the crowd of applications by providing samples of your creativity, work ethic, academic skill, and technological proficiency.
Portfolio Project
This project will involve the creation of a website utilizing a free site building platform. The website is to take the form of an Online Portfolio demonstrating all the academic skills and leadership experiences you are gaining here at SPCHS. The Online Portfolio will not only be graded this semester and is a requirement for graduation, but it will be a valuable tool for your application process when it comes to the next school you will attend and scholarships you wish to acquire.
Framework
This will not be a finished document now. We are merely creating the framework, for you to place your evidence of learning, artifacts of leadership, and reflections of your experiences.
The End Goal (A Long Time From Now)
During senior year, the students host a business function to which family members, community members, and mentors will be invited. SPCHS faculty will make formal introductions in the common area first, and then guests will be free to move from room to room where they will make introductions, converse with students, and observe students completed online portfolios on display. Students will have an opportunity to practice business communication skills, as well as a chance to discuss their accomplishments, answer questions, and reflect upon the things they have learned at SPCHS.

Getting Started
Step 1: Establish a personal online portfolio.
In the past, we have used Google Sites, but you may use another, more intuitive site-building platform if you prefer. Some students have liked Wix, Weebly, or Wordpress. As long as the site you choose allows you to create a number of "pages," is free, and allows you to set your privacy options to the level with which you and your family members are comfortable, there should be no problem. If you already have yours set up, it is part of your assignment to offer assistance to another Junior who is just now getting started.
Step 2: Think about your intended audience.
Step 3: "Invite" Dr. Hoogewerf to view your site.
If you have privacy settings in place, please be sure that Dr. Hoogewerf is allowed to access your portfolio. (You may need to invite me or send me a link.)

Step 2: Think about your intended audience.
- Who will be looking at your online portfolio? College recruiters? Potential employers? Internship directors? Scholarship granting organizations?
- For what purpose(s) would this person wish to look at your online portfolio?
- What should be included in the online portfolio to make it most useful and appealing to this person and why? In other words, what should it look like? Think about the types of work you will include that highlight your academic achievements: essays, creative writing, projects, presentations, speeches, etc. Also, think of how you will include varied media: written, audio, images, video, etc.
- Take a moment to consider what should and should not be included, with your intended audience in mind.

Home Page
Set up/update your home page, the first page the viewer will see. The following are necessary components of this home page:
- Your name, first and last, featured clearly
- A photograph of you. The photograph should be clear and school-appropriate.
- An introduction or well-developed autobiographical sketch. You may consider polishing the bio you posted for this class and incorporating it into your introduction. You may also wish to include a favorite quote, an interesting background, or other elements to personalize the site.
